Job summary

Southern Company Services in the United States is seeking a Transformer Engineer to support transformer assets across the generation fleet. The role focuses on reliability, maintenance, sparing strategy, and problem resolution, working with plant personnel, SCM, and vendors.

Responsibilities include developing technical specs for large transformers, reviewing vendor drawings, and witnessing factory inspections. Travel ~25% and relocation assistance may be available for suitable candidates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required
• Professional Engineer License is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety and quality are top priorities in transformer activities
• Develop and maintain technical specifications for medium & large power transformers
• Review and approve vendor drawings, factory test reports, and documentation to Southern Company standards
• Manage and witness factory inspections and acceptance testing during manufacturing of new transformers
• Provide technical support for field and factory repairs, including failure analysis and corrective actions
• Lead transformer-related root cause analyses and reliability improvement initiatives
• Own and maintain the generator step-up sparing strategy for the generation fleet
• Maintain the Battery Energy Storage System transformer sparing strategy
• Collaborate with SCM to align transformer needs with project schedules
