Job summary

Summit Academy North in Romulus, MI is hiring a full-time Special Education Teacher with certification. You will provide instruction and accommodations for students with special needs across diverse settings, collaborate with staff, and develop IEPs while maintaining comprehensive records.

The role emphasizes implementing evidence-based strategies, ongoing assessment, and professional development to support students’ growth in a safe, supportive school community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education. Master’s degree is a plus.
• Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in Special Education
• Experience working with students with disabilities, including experience developing and implementing IEPs
• Strong knowledge of best practices and research related to special education and disabilities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet the curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles
• Develop assessments and evaluate student performance through tests, quizzes, projects, and presentations
• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs
• Deliver direct instruction to students in various settings, including one-on-one, small group, and co-taught classrooms
• Provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities, including academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions
• Collaborate with general education teachers and other school staff to ensure students with special needs are included in all aspects of school life
• Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instruction and interventions as needed
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and services provided
• Stay up-to-date on best practices and research related to special education
• Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution
• Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students
• Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff
• Regular and predictable attendance
