Job summary

The State of Ohio seeks an educator to provide basic education instruction to inmates at the Trumbull Correctional facility in Leavittsburg, Ohio. The role requires a current teacher certificate for the appropriate grade level and specialization, plus a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

You will assess needs, plan individualized lessons, supervise coursework, and maintain student records. Role involves counseling, discipline management, and participation in professional development.

Qualifications

• Current Teacher Certificate appropriate for grade level and area of specialization.
• Must also have a baccalaureate degree or less.

Responsibilities

• Provides instruction in basic education needs (reading, writing, mathematics).
• Assesses educational needs of inmates.
• Develops lesson plans to address those needs with individual assignments and training.
• Provides instruction and individual assistance.
• Administers, scores and interprets examinations and proficiency indicators.
• Maintains discipline and/or security.
• Counsels students concerning performance, behavior and personal problems.
• Attends meetings as required.
• Prepares required records and reports (enrollment, grades, student progress).
• Inventories and orders supplies and materials needed.
• Researches, selects, and recommends new teaching materials.
• Attends in-service training sessions and workshops for professional development.
