Job summary

Spokane County's Solid Waste department is seeking a regular transfer station worker to assist with customer flow, sorting materials, and safety checks. The role involves operating equipment as trained, performing housekeeping, and assisting at hazardous waste and recycling drop-offs.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED and at least one year of related work experience. OSHA HazMat certification must be obtained within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One year of work experience in wastewater, construction, equipment operations or related manual labor.

Responsibilities

• Visually screen incoming loads and direct customers to drop-off locations.
• Receive, collect and sort materials for disposal at appropriate sites.
• Provide information to customers on disposal and recycling procedures, fees, rules, and options.
• Learn and operate transfer station equipment as needed.
• Perform daily safety checks, fueling, and inspection of equipment; maintain records.
• Advise supervisor of hazards or needed repairs to facility or equipment.
• Attend household hazardous waste and recycling area drop-offs.
• Perform cleaning, sweeping, and litter pick-up to keep site presentable.
• Perform other related duties as required.
