Job summary

The Spokane County Solid Waste department is hiring a Transfer Station Operator. The role supports customer flow, recycling operations, and site housekeeping under the Transfer Station Site Supervisor and Operations Manager.

Responsibilities include screening loads, sorting materials for disposal, and advising customers on disposal rules and options. The position also involves learning and safely operating equipment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of work experience in wastewater, construction, equipment operations, or other manual labor.
• Valid driver's license required.
• OSHA HazMat and/or 24Hr HAZWOPER must be obtained within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Visually screen loads and guide customers to the correct drop-off.
• Receive, sort, and dispose materials at appropriate sites.
• Inform customers about disposal and recycling procedures, fees, rules, and options.
• Perform daily safety checks, fueling, maintenance, and record-keeping for equipment.
• Assist supervisor with facility maintenance and reporting hazards.
