Job summary

Wabtec Corporation seeks a Transducer Manufacturing Engineering Co-op for Jan–Jun 2027. Based onsite in Waltham, MA, you will support the Transducer Production Engineering team with design, testing, and documentation as part of a multidisciplinary group.

You will lead projects, assist acoustics engineers, collect data with Excel/Power BI, and apply Lean principles to improve processes and safety. Strong analytical skills and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing BS or MS in Physics, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related engineering.
  • Strong background in physics is a plus.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Programming experience in LabVIEW, VB.NET or C# preferred.
  • Experience with simple circuits and tuning components is a plus.
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, multimeters, pulser/receivers is a plus.
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions.
  • Strong time management skills enabling on-time project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead primary project assigned for the co-op term from start to completion.
  • Assist Sr. Acoustics Engineer in evaluation, development and implementation of new test systems and protocols.
  • Assist production and production engineering team with other projects and tasks as needed.
  • Collect manufacturing data using Excel, Power BI and internal tools.
  • Conduct process audits and time studies, proposing Lean improvements.
  • Evaluate ergonomics and safety within Manufacturing operations.
  • Read and understand basic engineering drawings, schematics and component specs.

Transducer Manufacturing Engineering Co-Op (January-June 2027)

This position is part of Evident Inspection Technologies division, which delivers solutions to complex challenges by inspecting mission-critical assets and infrastructure. The division leverages nondestructive testing, remote visual inspection, and analytical instruments to support maintenance, manufacturing, and environmental applications. This Co-op position is from January to June 2027 and is based onsite in Waltham, MA.

The Transducer Manufacturing Engineering Co-op will assist the Transducer Production Engineering department with design, testing, and documentation. The Co-op will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team comprised of manufacturing, electromechanical, and acoustic engineers. Projects will include fixture development, process optimization and engineering changes.

As a co-op working with our Transducer PENG team, you will be empowered and encouraged to be hands-on. You will contribute to our mission by working with the Production Engineering, Quality and Product Management teams. A typical day for you will include:

  • Lead primary project assigned for the co-op term from start to completion
  • Assist Sr. Acoustics Engineer in evaluation, development and implementation of new test systems and protocols
  • Assist production and production engineering team with other projects and tasks as needed
  • Collecting and analyzing manufacturing data using Excel, Power BI and internal software tools.
  • Conducting process audits and time studies, proposing improvements based on Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Evaluating ergonomics and safety within the Manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct studies and propose improvements to the test process flow and spatial utilization based on Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Read and understand basic engineering drawings, schematics, block diagrams, and electrical component specifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Currently pursuing BS or MS degree in Physics, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or other Engineering discipline
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong background in physics is a plus
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Programming experience in LabView, VB.net or C# preferred
  • Experience with simple circuits and tuning components (capacitors, inductors) is a plus
  • Experience with oscilloscopes, multi-meters, pulser/receivers is a plus

  • Strong time management skills that enable on-time project delivery
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to take the initiative and drive for results

Pay rate:$25.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The pay rate for this role is currently $25 per hour. The actual pay rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
