The incumbent will provide quality assurance orientation and ongoing training for EMS employees, ensuring understanding of service line missions and performance measures. Qualifications

  • One year of specialized experience at GS-7 level or higher related to training and instruction.
  • Education can substitute for experience (2 full years of graduate education or master\'s degree in related field).
  • Combination of education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide orientation for all EMS employees establishing mission, vision, and performance measures.
  • Ensure new staff understand environmental management rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Serve as primary educator for the EMS service.
  • Plan and direct an ongoing employee training program for the service.
  • Attend seminars and read professional materials to stay current.
  • Develop training needs and programs for staff; work with supervisors as needed.
  • Document training completions in the Talent Management System (TMS).
  • Evaluate training outcomes and report performance issues to supervisors.

Summary

Employee will be assigned to the Office of the Chief - Environmental Management Service (EMS) - VA Medical Center - Battle Creek - MI. The primary function of this position is responsible for the Quality Assurance orientation and the on-going training of all Environmental Management Service employees.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge - skills - and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position - and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable - this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal service. Experience that demonstrated a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Teaching or instructing in an adult education program - secondary school - college - military installation - or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); Supervising or administering a training program; Development or review of training/course materials - aids - devices - etc. - and evaluation of training results; Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required) - Applicants must possess at least two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree or LL.B. or J.D. - if related. This education must demonstrate the knowledge - skills - and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. OR COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required) - Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. Physical Requirements: The work requires moderate walking - standing - bending - and carrying of light items. Movable carts will be used to transport audio-visual equipment. Use of a computer keyboard is necessary but can be self-paced. Work is performed primarily in a sedentary position. Duties
  • THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION - YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION. Duties include - but may not be limited to the following: Provides orientation of all newly hired EMS employees ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the service line's mission - vision - and established performance measures
  • Ensures that all newly hired staff understands all established environmental management rules - regulations - and procedures regarding position expectations
  • Serves as the primary educator for the entire service
  • Plans - manages - implements - and directs an effective - on-going employee training program for the service
  • Attends various seminars - academic presentation - classroom instructions - on and off the Medical Center grounds - and reads various professional publications on a regular basis
  • Utilizes up-to-date information and visual aids to provide basic orientation to all new employees - organizational and procedural education - on-going in-service and refresher courses for established employees - and remedial training when needed
  • Identifies training needs and develops training programs for all staff
  • Makes recommendations and collaborates with the section supervisor to ensure that an established training program is completed
  • Works with program managers and supervisors as well as the Chief - Environmental Management Service in the identification - development - and implementation of any potential training necessities required for each program - including on-going - training requirements to ensure program efficiencies are maintained
  • Documents the completion of all training by EMS employees within the organization's Talent Management System (TMS)
  • Evaluates training and education outcomes to determine if required proficiencies have been achieved
  • Identifies and reports performance issues or concerns to appropriate supervisors
  • Develops training and education plans for staff placed under a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) and gauges success of established plan in correcting identified inefficiencies as well as reporting progress to the employee's supervisor
  • Schedules - plans - and develops training calendars with appropriate vendors
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00am - 4:30pm
