Job summary

Salary Schedule

Under general direction, this position aims to provide district-based Custodial training of all Facilities Custodial Services Custodians and new hires for the district. Employees in this classification function at an instructional level and are responsible for coordinating all aspects of training including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation. Employees also communicate with other departments to insure the safe and efficient operation of equipment; possesses knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations; and enforce safety rules in accordance with district policy. Additional tasks are performed as directed.

Examples Of Essential Functions
  • Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
  • Trains custodial staff in all aspects of courteous, safe, efficient operation of equipment and supplies in the district. Coordinates new hire training, onsite training, Florida School Plant Management Association (FSPMA) training and other various training classes and workshops. This will include all areas of custodial responsibility i.e., proper cleaning methods, supporting district cleaning standards, safety, including lift training. Makes use of textbooks, handbooks, and flipcharts. Researches best practices from statistical data and other sources. Responds and attends to situations requiring additional training.
  • Prepares materials and conduct training for certification and recertification of Custodians, Custodian Residents, Custodian Crew Leaders, Master Crew Leaders and new hires.
  • Keeps training records on all custodial employees including required and voluntary training.
  • Performs various administrative duties in supporting daily Facilities Custodial Services safety/training activities.
  • Provides training and instruction to custodial employees in the safe and effective operation of custodial equipment, safe use and application of chemical cleaning and sanitizing supplies. Ensures compliance with established regulatory standards (OSHA).
  • Performs school site inspections to ensure compliance with the Facilities Custodial Services Work Plan, custodial work schedules and applicable regulations, laws, OCPS policies and procedures.
  • Perform onsite training for custodial employees.
  • Assists the Facilities Custodial Services Management team with the development and implementation of Equipment Standards, Cleaning Standards and Supply/Product Standards.
  • Assists with recruiting, screening, and recommendation to hire for custodial employees including substitutes.
  • Assists with issues related to custodial services, usage of the custodial equipment and the cleaning of the buildings or department concerns including visiting sites during school hours.
  • Develops total training packet including scope and objectives.
  • Develops, pilots, and evaluates employee safety program; revises safety program.
  • Develops crisis management training curriculum for custodial staff in crisis management; evaluates crisis management training program.
  • Answers the telephone; provide assistance and information to internal and external customers.
  • Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data; utilizes word processing, database, and software programs, such as SAP and Microsoft Suite.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.

Minimum Training And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in public administration, education, or closely related field; supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years previous experience and/or training involving teaching or training, or any equivalent combination of related education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential job functions. Must have completed OSHA certification. Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license.

ADA COMPLIANCE
  • Physical Ability Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
  • Sensory Requirements Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.
  • Environmental Factors Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
