Hillsborough County Public Schools is seeking a Crew Leader, Custodian to ensure daily cleaning and maintenance in district facilities. This role involves managing custodial staff and performing hands-on tasks to provide a safe, clean environment for students and staff.
The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in housekeeping with supervisory skills and the ability to lift 55 pounds. Additional training in custodial operations is encouraged for all employees.
The Crew Leader, Custodian will perform daily cleaning, minor maintenance, yard duties, and assigned tasks in order to provide a safe and healthy learning environment in all school district facilities.
Manage assigned clerical staff and subordinate professional personnel in one or more sections of the department. Take responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of assigned teams. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district’s policies and applicable state and federal laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in large‑scale housekeeping and yard maintenance with one (1) year of related management or supervisory experience required.
All new and current employees are highly encouraged to complete the Custodial Operations Career Advancement training program through Hillsborough County Public Schools.
Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals. Writes routine reports and correspondence. Speaks effectively before groups of individuals.
Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Computes rate, ratio, and percent; draws and interprets bar graphs.
Applies common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions; deals with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
