Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks a Training Program Lead for the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS). You will define, implement, track, and continuously improve training across SNS organizations, including support for facility users and nonemployee training.

You will manage training requirements, coordinate DTO activities, and maintain the LMS, partnering with supervisors and staff to drive program success.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing training/qualification requirements in a complex operations and/or research environment.
  • Experience with learning management systems (LMS) and training program development.

We are seeking a Training Program Lead for the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) at Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL). In this role, you will ensure training requirements are defined, implemented, tracked, and continuously improved across SNS organizations, including support for facility users and nonemployee/student training. This positionresidesin the Reactor Certifications & QualificationsGroup, Business Management Services Section, Research Reactors Division (RRD), Neutron Sciences Directorate at ORNL — note that despite the section name, this role supports the SNS, an accelerator-based facility.

The SNS produces neutrons through spallation, using an accelerator to fire short proton pulses at a liquid mercury target, generating neutrons for instruments supporting research in physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science. ORNL is the largest U.S. Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting research to deliver transformative solutions in energy and security.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Implement andmaintaintheNScDTraining and Qualification Plan (TQP), assessing staff training requirements based on hazards, environmental impacts, work performed, and site/facility access needs.

Serve as a consultant to supervisors, Division Training Officers (DTOs), and staff on training requirements; execute select DTO responsibilities for new or revised requirements and coordinate implementation across multiple organizations.

Manage training assignments using ORNL's learning management system (LMS); track completion and assess training/qualification status across SNS organizations, driving improvement in partnership with DTOs and supervisors.

Support management of training requirements for facility users, nonemployees, and students, ensuring consistent processes and resolving issues with program staff.

Help define and prioritize training initiatives; coordinate DTO activities to implement new requirements and corrective actions; represent SNS in ORNL-level training strategy planning.

Serve as the primary instructional design resource for SNS-specific training, including developing documented training plans and reviewing andmaintainingtraining records.

Evaluate SNS training program effectivenessrelativeto the risk, hazard, and complexity of the work; serve as SNS point-of-contact for training and qualification inquiries, interfacing with ORNL training organizations on dissemination and issue resolution.

Basic Qualifications:

BS/BA degree and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Demonstrated experience managing training/qualification requirements in a complex operations and/or research environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Articulate 360 or comparable instructional design/authoring software.

Strong writing skills and ability to communicate clearly with highly trained technical staff and management.

Demonstrated ability to apply multiple quality standards across diverse technical organizations, programs, and projects.

Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and multi-tasking ability.

Strong analytical skills, project management capability, and customer service orientation.

Ability to interpret, communicate, and implement complex requirements and instructions.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively across the laboratory, with effective facilitation and training skills in a fast-paced operations and research environment.

Technical background in conduct of operations, quality assurance, configuration management, or related fields.

Special Requirements:

This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.
