Job summary

Software Placement Group (SPG) in Waterloo, Iowa, is seeking a Training Manager to lead onboarding and ongoing skills and compliance training across the organization. This on-site role ensures employees in every department are trained safely, efficiently, and per company procedures and regulatory requirements.

You will design onboarding, administer skills assessments, develop curricula including OSHA compliance and safety protocols, and maintain training records to support audits and quality

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education, Business, or related field required
• 3-5 years of experience in training, learning & development, or a related role
• Proven ability to design and deliver hands-on technical training across a variety of departments and job functions
• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry-specific compliance requirements
• Basic understanding of shop math and ability to read blueprints, specifications, and follow procedures
• Strong organizational skills, including managing training records and certification tracking
• Attention to quality and pride in workmanship
• Problem analysis and problem resolution at an organizational level
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to train employees across varying experience levels and shifts

Responsibilities

• Prepare onboarding schedules and training checklists by partnering with department leaders
• Deliver structured onboarding training company-wide, including production topics and safety protocols
• Administer internal skills assessments and evaluate readiness through hands-on observation
• Design and deliver ongoing skills training across departments to reinforce quality workmanship
• Develop and maintain compliance training curricula including OSHA requirements and PPE use
• Track and manage training records, certifications, and renewal schedules for audits
• Coordinate training for new equipment and process changes with engineering and operations
• Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments and performance metrics
• Maintain training materials and e-learning content for all departments
• Document actions by completing training and compliance forms
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment and wear PPE
• Identify safety and health concerns by surveying conditions
• Contribute to team effort by achieving related results

Overview

An established manufacturing organization is seeking a Training Manager to lead onboarding and ongoing skills and compliance training across the company. This role ensures employees in every department are trained efficiently, safely, and in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.

What you'll do

• Prepare new hire onboarding schedules and training checklists by partnering with department leaders to identify role‑specific skills and timelines
• Deliver structured onboarding training for new employees company‑wide, covering department‑specific skills, procedures, safety protocols, and company policies, including for production roles topics such as blueprint and specification reading, hand‑held MIG welding technique, assembly procedures, and safe use of equipment
• Administer internal skills assessments, including role‑specific tests, and evaluate new hire readiness through hands‑on observation before sign‑off on independent work
• Design and deliver ongoing skills training for employees across all departments to reinforce quality workmanship, problem resolution, and job‑specific proficiency
• Develop and maintain compliance training curricula company‑wide, including OSHA requirements, personal protective equipment use, overhead crane operation, hazard identification, and other regulatory or policy‑driven training
• Track and manage training records, certifications, and renewal schedules across the organization to ensure company‑wide compliance and audit readiness
• Coordinate training for new equipment, tooling, systems, or process changes in partnership with engineering, operations, and other department leaders
• Evaluate training effectiveness across departments through assessments, observation, and performance metrics, adjusting programs based on results
• Maintain and update training materials, job aids, standard operating procedures, and e‑learning content for all departments
• Document actions by completing training and compliance forms
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, and wear proper personal protective equipment
• Identify and anticipate safety and health concerns and hazards by surveying environmental, operational, and occupational conditions
• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Required qualifications
