Training Manager
Waterloo, IA | $80,000 to $100,000 plus bonus
We're hiring a Training Manager to lead onboarding and ongoing skills and compliance training across our organization, ensuring employees in every department are trained efficiently, safely, and in line with company procedures and regulatory requirements. This is a hands on role for someone who enjoys building training programs from the ground up and working directly with employees on the shop floor and beyond.
What You'll Do
- Prepare new hire onboarding schedules and training checklists, partnering with department leaders to identify role‑specific skills and timelines
- Deliver structured onboarding training company-wide, covering department‑specific skills, safety protocols, and company policies, including blueprint reading, hand‑held MIG welding technique, assembly procedures, and safe equipment use for production roles
- Administer internal skills assessments and evaluate new hire readiness through hands‑on observation before sign‑off on independent work
- Design and deliver ongoing skills training across all departments to reinforce quality workmanship and job‑specific proficiency
- Develop and maintain compliance training curricula, including OSHA requirements, PPE use, overhead crane operation, and hazard identification
- Track training records, certifications, and renewal schedules to ensure company‑wide compliance and audit readiness
- Coordinate training for new equipment, tooling, systems, or process changes with engineering and operations
- Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments and performance metrics, adjusting programs as needed
- Maintain and update training materials, job aids, SOPs, and e‑learning content
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education, Business, or a related field
- 3 to 5 years of experience in training, learning and development, or a related role
- Proven ability to design and deliver hands‑on technical training across departments
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry‑specific compliance requirements
- Ability to read blueprints and specifications, with a basic understanding of shop math
- Strong organizational skills, including training records and certification tracking
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to train employees across varying experience levels and shifts

- Experience delivering training across multiple departments or functions
- Familiarity with production processes such as welding or metal fabrication/assembly
