Job summary

The YMCA seeks a Training Center Attendant to greet and assist members and volunteers, and to refer needs to the appropriate staff. You will educate members on equipment use, monitor training areas, and help keep facilities clean and safe. This role supports wellness programs and serves as a point of contact during emergencies.

You will demonstrate proper exercise technique, assist with workouts at the member's level, and collaborate with staff to ensure a high-value member experience.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid.
  • Working knowledge of health and fitness principles.
  • Ability to demonstrate and assist with exercises with proper form.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people.
  • Familiarize yourself with YMCA rules and policies within 30 days.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist members, volunteers, and staff courteously and professionally.
  • Provide orientations and assist members with workouts; act as spotter when needed.
  • Monitor wellness areas and keep equipment and spaces clean and organized.
  • Refer member needs to appropriate staff and handle complaints calmly.
  • Assist in maintenance and laundry duties; ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Enforce YMCA rules, policies, and emergency procedures during incidents.
  • Share wellness program information using available tools and resources.
  • Support other staff and perform duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Wellness Director, the Training Center Attendant will meet and greet members and assist members by referring them to the appropriate staff members for specific training needs. Educate and enforce operational guidelines and regulations with all members. This position will be responsible for related services including instruction on equipment, maintaining and cleaning equipment and fitness areas, general operations, and attending to any emergency that may occur.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Greet and assist all members, potential members, volunteers, and staff in a courteous, professional, and friendly manner. Be enthusiastic towards members by learning their names and expressing an interest in their YMCA activities. Strive to enrich their YMCA experience by introducing them to new programs, staff, members, and volunteer activities.Respond to members' needs. Contact appropriate personnel when necessary. Handle complaints in a courteous manner. Effectively negotiate and resolve customer service problems.Monitor all wellness areas, including East & West Training Centers, Track, Half-Track Areas, Gyms, Racquetball Courts, etc., provide orientations, and assist members with workouts.Assist in maintenance and laundry duties to include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and general cleanliness of Training Center areas.Maintains and cleans equipment according to the schedule or as requested by supervisor.Maintain a working knowledge of the YMCA rules, policies, and emergency procedures and act as the control center for the Training Center during emergency situations.Shares wellness program information with members, using available tools and resources (e.g., handouts, schedules).Maintain working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.Conduct, demonstrate and safely lead members at their personal level of ability, including proper exercise technique and serving as a spotter.Assist other staff as needed and perform other duties as assigned.YMCA COMPETENCIES:Mission Advancement: Accepts and demonstrates the Y’s values.
