  • Demonstrates guest relations with EMS professionals, patients’ family members and staff.
  • Participates in recruitment and retention program development.
  • Identifies risk management issues and reports them promptly.
  • Maintains database on Performance Improvement and QA.
  • Assists with educational program presentations within EMS.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed based on system/operational demand.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This includes Cumberland County EMS and Life Link Critical Care Transport of Cape Fear Valley Health System, Cumberland County Emergency Dispatch EMD Program and any other agencies/departments functioning in the Cumberland County EMS System.Major Job FunctionsThe following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:Performs Quality Assurance reviews of pre-hospital and inter-facility transport of medical recordsServes as Software Administrator for the purpose of maintaining EMS electronic charting systemImplements changes as necessary to charting systems to comply with local, state and national reporting standards for electronic EMS documentationDocument performance improvement activities in a timely and accurate mannerDemonstrate excellent guest relations when dealing with EMS professionals, patients’ family members, medical center visitors, staff and physicians.Participates in the development of recruitment and retention programsDemonstrate ability to recognize risk management issues and report issues in a timely mannerMaintains database of information pertaining to Performance Improvement and Quality AssuranceAssist with the presentation of educational programs within EMSProvide direct patient care as needed based on system/operational demandOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsThe following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:Education and Formal Training:Associates degree in Emergency Medical Science or equivalency requiredCurrent certification by the State of North Carolina as a Level I Paramedic Instructor requiredCurrent NC Paramedic certification requiredCurrent certification (instructor preferred) in International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) as sponsored by the Academy of Emergency Physicians or equivalent requiredCurrent certification (instructor preferred) in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) pre-hospital provider or equivalent, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) as sponsored by the American Heart Association requiredCurrent certification by the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission as an Emergency Vehicle Driver (EVD) or equivalent requiredCertificate of completion of the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission’s Hazardous Materials Awareness course or equivalent requiredCertificates of completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses 100, 200 and 700 requiredValid North Carolina Driver’s License or equivalent with five (5) years licensed driving experience in North Carolina requiredPreferred instructor certification for ITLS, BCLS, ACLS, and PALSAll certifications and license must be maintained continuously while employedWork Experience:5 years experience as a paramedic requiredExperience in working with paramedic level training programs is preferredExperience in the development and implementation of Performance Improvement programs is preferredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English languageKnowledge of emergency medical procedures, rescue techniques, hazardous materials incidents, equipment and supplies employed in pre-hospital care, and of communications equipment usedKnowledge of locations in Cumberland County and the cities and locations contained therein, especially major streets, landmarks, rest homes, convalescence care centers and nursing homesAbility to work calmly under extremely stressful conditions and follow established rules, procedures and protocolsAbility to deal with patients, their families and others in a courteous, compassionate, professional manner under the most adverse circumstances and an ability to maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and other emergency and health care personnelKnowledgeable of the age specific physiological, psychosocial, developmental, and spiritual needs of the patients typically servedPhysical Requirements:Hearing, speaking and visual acuity are required for effective supervisionAbility to move around numerous physical locations and within confined areas and assume awkward positions in emergency situationsAbility to drive all types of ambulance vehicles and a thorough knowledge of safe driving procedures used in the response of emergency vehiclesAbility to lift and move a minimum of one hundred pounds (100 lbs) on a regular basis with the added strength to lift upwards of 150 lbs, including moving a patient from a bed to the floor, chair to the floor, or from a stretcher to a bed when situation requiresPosition may involve exposure to skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materialsRequired Licenses and CertificationsCape Fear Valley Health System is an Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/Disability/Veteran/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity
