Job summary

Smurfit Westrock plc in Conover, NC is seeking a Training and Certification Specialist to manage employee onboarding, audits, and certification levels within the Conover Management System. You will coordinate classroom, on-the-job, vendor, and shadow training, ensure SOP updates, and maintain training records.

This role requires keen attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work with all departments.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate onboarding to achieve level 1 certification before employee goes to production floor.
  • Coordinate or facilitate training per C-Pro/Element Tree for each position (classroom, on-the-job, vendor, shadow).
  • Assist in writing and updating SOPs and reference guides.
  • Conduct daily audits for certification within the Conover Management System.
  • Provide monthly progress reports to managers and T&D leader on employee progress.
  • Liaise for manager-driven process changes; audit new processes before adding to the element tree.
  • Ensure training resources and materials are available.
  • Track training progress and follow up with trainees to ensure timely completion.
  • Maintain training records in the C-Pro system and all related paperwork.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee information and collaborate with all departments.
  • Promote teamwork and actively participate in Performance Excellence initiatives.
  • Comply with safety policies and wear required PPE; support flexible hours/overtime as needed.
  • Support other duties as assigned by Management or Training and Development.

TheOpportunity:

Responsible for handling the employee position training/audits for certifications levels within the Conover Management System. Performs audits and monitors the effectiveness of training activities, ensures that employees have the required knowledge and skills to perform their job and support business needs. Special projects, orientations and special training needs. Follow all WestRock Core Values and Behaviors. Maintain housekeeping and 5S to standards set by management. Additional job duties and miscellaneous projects as assigned by management.

How you will impactSmurfitWestrock:
  • Facilitate the onboarding process to achieve level 1 certification before employee goes to the production floor.
  • Coordinate and/or facilitate training program outlined with in C-Pro/Element Tree for each position. Training will consist of classroom, on the job training, outside or vendor training and shadowing.
  • Assist in writing and updating Standard Operation Procedures (SOP); i.e. work instructions, Reference Guides, etc.
  • Conduct daily audits for certification within the frame work set forth in the Conover Management System.
  • Give monthly reports/report cards to managers and T&D leader on employee progress.
  • Liaison for manager driven process changes and SOP’s, perform audits for new process before adding to element tree.
  • Ensure technical resources, training materials and supplies are available.
  • Track training progress and follow up with trainees to keep them on track, ensure completion of training programs in a timely, productive manner.
  • Maintain employee training records within the C-Pro system.
  • Maintain and update all required employee paperwork, including filing training certifications and all other training documentation.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality in handling employee information.
  • Work closely and efficiently with all departments.
  • Work proactively to promote teamwork at all levels of the company.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, safety rules, security procedures and instructions.
  • Perform all duties according to established safety policy, including wearing all required PPEs to perform duties.
  • Work flexible hours and overtime, as necessary, to meet the training needs of all shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management or Training and Development.
  • Expected to be an active member on a Performance Excellence team.
