Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience; printing experience preferred if external candidate.
  • Must be able to supervise the jobs you are overseeing or quickly gain working knowledge of those jobs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day shift operations and assign work.
  • Plan daily production and monitor staffing to meet workload demands.
  • Manage performance of direct reports and conduct performance reviews.
  • Train staff on Safety, GMPs and quality systems; ensure SOPs are followed.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and safety procedures.
  • Drive productivity through data analysis and timely decision-making.
  • Foster a collaborative, safety-focused work environment.
  • Address safety concerns and implement corrective actions when needed.

Hours: 2:45 PM-1:15AM (Monday-Thursday and shorter shifts on Fridays)

The Opportunity

Ensure the timely production of quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations. Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, all S.O.Ps, work instructions, and GMPs. Proactively manage departmental metrics that impact cost. Foster a team atmosphere, provide vision, and demonstrate support of the company’s core processes. Responsible for day-to-day management of the entire shift, including handing out work assignments, daily planning, managing performance of direct reports, operational decisions, problem-solving, and conflict management.

How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock
  • Ensures department meets production and quality goals on a daily basis.
  • Identifies, documents and shares departmental metrics for Productivity, Safety, Quality, Waste and any other metrics required by the company.
  • Plans and schedules staffing to meet workload requirements and productivity standards.
  • Manages employee performance by setting goals and consistently holding employees accountable for meeting performance standards.
  • Conducts on-time performance reviews of direct reports.
  • Trains or ensures training is conducted in Safety, GMPs, Quality systems rules and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance to all company policies and procedures.
  • Functions well in a fast-paced environment and manages competing priorities.
  • Makes sound operational decisions.
  • Understands the functions and capabilities of various departments and uses those resources effectively.
  • Analyzes root causes and solves problems effectively and in a timely manner.

  • Maintains a clean work environment (5 Basics).
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
What You Need to Succeed

Safe Work Requirements
  • PPE: Safety Glasses, Ear Plugs or Earmuffs, Safety Shoes, Gloves when required, Hard Hats, and any other PPE required based on the job or task.
  • Compliance with Smurfit Westrock employment policies, handbook, and workplace safety policies, rules, and procedures.
  • Submission of Safety Concerns and Safety Work Order / Incident Reporting and Learning / Basic understanding of the Safety Excellence System
  • Follow the site management (General Manager, Plant Manager, Department Manager, Shift Supervisor) assignments for completing tasks and managing programs as part of the Safety Excellence System.
  • Must follow the Training Matrix assigned in the Learning and Development System. Training could be assigned annually, Quarterly, or at the time of a new process/procedure.
  • Must have a clear understanding of the STOP Work Process – Employees have the right to STOP the work at any time to gain a better understanding of the process or to ensure safety standards are met.
