Job summary

Smurfit WestRock is seeking an Operator Trainee to support daily production activities while learning to operate manufacturing equipment safely and efficiently. You will gain hands-on experience with machine setup, quality checks, material handling and basic troubleshooting alongside experienced team members.

This role provides a solid foundation for advancing into operator-level positions within the production team, with comprehensive training and a clear path to growth in a global packaging

The Opportunity:

As an Operator Trainee, you will support daily production activities while learning the skills needed to operate manufacturing equipment safely and efficiently. You will work alongside experienced team members to gain hands‑on experience in machine setup, quality checks, material handling, and basic troubleshooting. This role provides a strong foundation for future advancement into operator‑level positions within the production team.

How You Will Impact Smurfit WestRock

1. Safety

• Follow all safety procedures at all times.
• Report unsafe conditions to the Team Leader or Department Manager.
• Support a safe working environment and help protect the well‑being of all employees.

2. Production

• Always prioritize safety above production.
• Complete all DMS checklists and required documentation accurately.
• Load the roll stand for production.
• Maintain correct ink viscosity and clean ink stations (Cut 2).
• Operate the butt splicer.
• Inspect printed and cut materials for quality.
• Pack cartons on pallets for WIP or into corrugated cases for finished goods.
• Insert tags in loads for CNG pallets.
• Assist presspersons during machine make‑ready setup.
• Help locate corrugated cases when needed.
• Ensure product safety and quality; report any concerns to Senior Management or the Quality Manager.

3. Maintenance

• Assist maintenance personnel with machine repairs when needed.
• Assist with housekeeping around the machine.
• Maintain cleanliness of equipment and assigned work areas.

5. Machinery

• Assist presspersons with preventative maintenance tasks.
• Help troubleshoot mechanical issues on production equipment.
