WTCE Adjunct Trainer are professional educators who work on a limited basis and have the primary responsibility of fulfilling the Texas Southmost College’s (TSC) mission, vision, values and goals of providing a quality education for all students enrolled at the College. The relationship of the adjunct Trainer member to the student is one of leader, teacher, advisor, and facilitator of learning. WTCE Adjunct Trainer are responsible for teaching workforce related and continuing education classes. Adjunct Trainer are hired in a part‑time capacity contingent upon the needs of the department.
Teach program‑specific Workforce Training and Continuing Education courses. Develop curriculum for selected classes as needed. Collaborate with the Workforce Training and Continuing Education Director to develop continuing education schedules. Teach courses at a variety of times and locations, including evenings and weekends. Develop and utilize a course syllabus for each course following established instructional guidelines. Advise students in career and program matters. Provide timely, quality access to students through electronic communication or other appropriate methods. Strive for continual improvement of student success by planning an optimal learning environment, providing high quality instruction and advising, participating in development of learning outcomes, assessing student learning, and engaging in ongoing professional development. Manage learning environments by ensuring accurate syllabi that incorporate departmental, college and instructor requirements; maintain attendance records, submit grades, and provide constructive feedback throughout the semester; conduct classes punctually. Deliver effective instruction by assuming primary responsibility for curriculum development in accordance with college policies, ensuring rigor and quality; consider individual student differences; use the college’s digital learning solution; communicate expectations about technology. Enhance the student’s learning experience by integrating concrete, real‑life situations, employing methods that develop discipline‑specific thinking and interdisciplinary applications, and working with students and employers where appropriate. Collaborate with colleagues across the college to construct and continuously improve measurable learning outcomes, including the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board core curriculum objectives and additional TSC objectives. Assess student learning through assessments that demonstrate growth, sequence learning opportunities, and align assessment with learning opportunities. Promote continual improvement by revising curriculum as needed and using defined student learning outcomes. Support TSC’s institutional effectiveness program by understanding and completing Student Outcomes Assessment Plans, meeting performance evaluation measures, sharing best practices, and striving for improved educational effectiveness. Support learning through student engagement by creating a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning. Maintain a learning‑centered environment by being available during the designated work period. Support student learning by directing students to appropriate academic support services. Pursue professional development by taking graduate or internal courses and maintaining required credentials, licensing, and continuing education hours. Participate collegially in discipline‑specific activities. Attend the workplace regularly, report to work punctually, and follow a work schedule. Use interpersonal skills and sound judgment to complete duties. Support the values and institutional goals as defined in the college’s Strategic Plan. Complete all required training and professional development sessions. Working hours may include evenings, holidays or weekends depending on deadlines and institutional events. Perform other duties as assigned.
