Job summary

Regional Transportation District (RTD) seeks a dual-certified Locomotive Engineer/Conductor to operate CRV trains safely and efficiently along RTDC corridors. Responsibilities include inspections, communications with dispatch, and providing courteous passenger service.

The role requires alertness, clear verbal communication, and the ability to react calmly in emergencies. Training will be provided to obtain required licenses.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least twenty-one years of age.
  • Prior railroad operating experience and clear, effective verbal communication skills preferred.
  • Final job offer contingent upon completing a two-month training program to obtain the Certified Locomotive Engineer and Conductor lic

Responsibilities

  • Operates CRV in a safe and efficient manner according to RTDC Operating Rules and regulations.
  • Accept responsibility for safety and security of passengers and crew.
  • Provide customer service to all passengers upon request.
  • Reports unusual occurrences to the N Line Dispatcher and follows safety procedures.
  • Perform pre-service inspections, paperwork, and document equipment defects.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions and coordinate with maintenance for restoration.

This position involves performing all duties and responsibilities associated with the operations of RTD Commuter Rail Vehicles (CRV) in a safe, courteous, and efficient manner. The Regional Transportation District Commuter Rail (RTDC) corridors are FRA regulated. This position is a dual-certified thereby consolidating responsibilities of FRA Certified Locomotive Engineer and Conductor. Responsibilities include but are not limited to routine operations, special operations, coordination with security personnel in evacuation efforts during times of emergency, making public address announcements in emergency situations, and exercising prudent judgment under a variety of conditions which may occur during a given tour of duty.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conducts self in an appropriate manner as a representative of RTD, uses sound judgement at all times, works safely on the job, respects co-workers and assures the quality of services to all customers both internal and external.
  • Operates CRV in a safe and efficient manner according to all Regional Transportation District Commuter Rail (RTDC) Operating Rules, timetable, policies and regulations applicable to the job
  • Accept responsibility for the safety and security of all passengers and crew members.
  • Provide customer service to all passengers upon request or as needed.
  • Reports unusual occurrences including but not limited to CRV and wayside equipment to the N Line Dispatcher and follows all traffic, safety, emergency and standard rules and operating procedure.
  • When required, alters CRV consist size to address the operating conditions in accordance with RTDC Operating Rules.
  • Performs visual inspection of CRV before beginning revenue service. Performs all required inspections, tests, procedures and completes all required paperwork. Identifies and documents equipment defects on the Daily Equipment Inspection Report.
  • Manually operates track switches and other wayside equipment in accordance with the RTDC Operating rules. Performs switching assignments as requested in cooperation with other departments.
  • Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and restores situation to normalcy with support from maintenance of equipment personnel.
  • Uses radio communication equipment in accordance with RTDC Operating Rules to monitor track conditions, signals, and displays.
  • Provides customer service information in a courteous manner and ensures trains are on time to avoid passenger delays.
  • Completes accident and incident reports accurately at the end of scheduled shift.
  • The employee can be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and is in strict compliance to job attendance and reporting policy.
  • Initiate the performance of a job briefing with all affected persons.
  • Must wear the required uniform and protective equipment in the performance of duties.
  • Must be able to react calmly and effectively in emergency and life-threatening situations.
