Job summary

Norfolk Southern Corp. in Painted Post, NY is hiring a Train Conductor to safely move freight trains, couple railcars, and manage documentation. You will train to operate locomotives, report incidents, and follow FRA safety rules.

No prior railroad experience is required—we provide comprehensive training and a pathway to a regular assignment. Expect on-call shifts, 2–3 days away from home weekly, and union affiliation within 60 days after training.

Qualifications

• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Must hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
• Must pass pre-employment FRA drug and alcohol screening.
• Ability to work 24/7 on-call with short notice.

Responsibilities

• Build and inspect trains, railcars, and equipment for safe operation.
• Operate remote control locomotives and perform coupling, alignment, and handling tasks.
• Communicate effectively with crews, dispatchers, and yard controllers.
• Maintain accurate documentation and comply with FRA and company safety rules.
• Report to work within 90 minutes and meet physical requirements.
