Job summary

TEC Equipment is seeking a trailer technician in California to perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and complex repairs on semi-trailers. The role offers in-house advanced training and coverage of travel costs for training sessions.

You will conduct inspections, handle major component rebuilds, and ensure compliance with safety and EPA regulations while maintaining service records and striving for shop efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of practical experience working on trailers.
  • Must have own hand tools.
  • High expertise in troubleshooting using diagnostic software.
  • Proficient computer skills to input vehicle maintenance records and utilize diagnostic software.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job (frequent lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, stooping).
  • CDL license preferred but not required.

  • Rebuild or repair major components (transmissions, gear plates, block reconditioning).

  • Troubleshoot and perform wiring repairs and diagnose electronic issues.
  • Perform routine/preventative maintenance and identify worn or damaged parts.
  • Maintain safe and organized work area and comply with safety regulations.
  • Test drive and verify vehicle performance after services.

Overview

This position is primarily responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing, and repairing semi-trailers. We offer in-hous e advanced-training opportunities – we are one of only three dealer groups in North America that is certified to conduct all Mack/Volvo training up to the master tech certification within our in-house Training Centers. We cover travel costs for our technicians to attend training. We also offer a family-oriented work environment.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostic tests to troubleshoot issues and repair vehicle to proper operating condition
  • Perform advanced repairs and replace major components such as radiators, valve adjustments, and turbos
  • Rebuild or repair major components such as transmissions, gear plates and block reconditioning
  • Perform entire engine overhauls including replacing heads, rods and main bearings
  • Troubleshoot and perform complex wiring repairs and diagnose and repair any electronic issues
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance services. Identify worn and damaged parts all parts to include major components, repairing, adjusting, or replacing as needed
  • Maintain safe and organized work area
  • Ability to be on task to meet shop quality and efficiency standards
  • Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs
  • Follow all state and federal vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards; follow company policies, procedures, and safety and EPA regulations
  • Must use all safety equipment necessary for the job
  • Maintain current knowledge of job and technical skills by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical and regulation publications
  • Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems

  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain predictable and reliable attendance and work in a safe and alert manner
  • Valid driver's license and able to meet insurance requirements. CDL license preferred but not required
Compensation

The base pay range for this position is $30.28 to $37.96.
