Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in Eau Claire, WI is seeking a diesel mechanic to safely operate, repair, rebuild and maintain company-owned or leased heavy-duty trucks and equipment to ensure they operate safely.

Starting pay is $24-$30 per hour, with hours 7am-3:30pm Monday to Friday, and overtime after 40 hours. Benefits include PTO, tool allowance, boot reimbursement, 401K after 6 months, and health benefits after 60 days.

Qualifications

• Experience as a diesel mechanic (1 year minimum).
• Ability to use diagnostic software is a major plus.
• Computer literacy and ability to learn specialized software systems.

Responsibilities

• Diagnostics & Repair: Diagnose and repair operational difficulties with trailers.
• Administrative Duties: Accurately complete daily reports, work orders, parts orders, and other required administrative tasks.
• Safety & Compliance: Ensure all work is performed in safe conditions and in strict compliance with laws and company policies.
• Collaboration & Training: Assist in reviewing mechanical write-ups, coordinate repair schedules, and aid training of new team members.
• Tool Maintenance: Maintain personal hand and power tools and keep work area organized.

Job description

Safely operate, repair, rebuild and perform maintenance on Company owned or leased heavy duty diesel trucks and equipment including rolling stock to ensure its ability to operate safely.

Starting Pay: $24-$30/hr (Based on EXP/Qualifications)

Hours: 7am-330pm M-F. OT after 40hrs worked.

Key Responsibilities

Diagnostics & Repair: Diagnose and repair operational difficulties with trailers

Administrative Duties: Accurately complete daily reports, work orders, parts orders, and other required administrative tasks.

Safety & Compliance: Ensure all work is performed in safe conditions and in strict compliance with federal, state/provincial, local laws, and company safety policies.

Collaboration & Training: Assist in reviewing mechanical write-ups on equipment, coordinate repair schedules, and aid in the training and orientation of new team members.

Tool Maintenance: Possess, provide, and maintain the personal hand and power tools necessary to perform heavy equipment maintenance, while keeping a clean and organized work area.

Job Requirements

Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); a technical diploma or degree in diesel mechanics is highly desired.

Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience working as a diesel mechanic.

Technical Skills: Computer literacy is required, with the ability to be trained on specialized software systems (experience with diagnostic software is a major plus).

Safety Screenings: Must be able to meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Physical Effort: Frequently required to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift/push/pull up to 100 pounds. Continuous concentrated mental and visual attention is necessary.

Environment: Frequently exposed to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, vibration, hot/cold weather conditions, and toxic or caustic chemicals/fumes. Occasionally required to work in high, precarious places.
