Job summary

Akhire in Anchorage, AK is hiring a Trailer Mechanic to work under mentorship, performing inspections, maintenance and repairs on 28- to 53-foot company trailers in compliance with regulations.

You will review work orders with mentors, follow checklists, test systems, discuss problems with drivers, and participate in safety training. The schedule is M-F 7am–5pm with pay at $30 per hour.

Qualifications

  • 6 months automotive or diesel mechanical experience preferred.
  • Must own and maintain basic hand tools and boots.
  • CDL Class A desirable; welding experience is a plus.
  • Pass PAT/FCE, drug screening and background check.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and work with mentor on inspections and maintenance of trailers.
  • Review work orders with mentors, supervisors and assigned mechanics.
  • Follow checklists to inspect belts, hoses, steering, brakes, fuel systems, tires and wheel bearings.
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to meet specifications.
  • Confer with drivers to describe problems and plan repairs.
  • Disassemble parts and inspect wear with gauges.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance on trailers.
  • Perform routine maintenance like oil changes and tune-ups.
  • Inspect, repair, reline, replace brakes and tires.
  • Participate in safety training and company events.

Pay: $30.00 Per Hour

Schedule: M-F 7am - 5pm

Summary - Trailer Mechanic

The position of Trailer Mechanic will have responsibility to observe and work alongside an assigned mechanic who will provide mentorship on the performance of regular inspections and routine maintenance, and repairs on 28-to-53-foot company freight trailer(s) in compliance with Federal and State regulations.

Review work orders and discuss work with mentor(s), supervisor(s) and assigned mechanic(s).

Follow applicable checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas.

Test and adjust repaired systems to meet manufacturers’ performance specifications.

Confer with drivers to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems and to discuss work to be performed.

Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear using micrometers, calipers, and gauges.

Maintain and provide preventative maintenance inspections on 28–53-foot trailers.

Perform routine maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups.

Inspect, repair, reline, replace and adjust brakes.

Inspect repair and replace tires.

Participate in company training programs, safety events, company functions and meetings when requested.

Requirements
  • Minimum 6 months of automotive or diesel mechanical experience is highly preferred.
  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Inlieuof experience,a one-year certificate or A.S. degree from a community college or technical school isrequired.
  • Must own andmaintainbasic hand tools and composite or steel toed work boots.
  • Responsible for periodic driving duties of non-CDL commercial vehicles within the parameters of your jobduties;which will further require you tomaintaina active driver’s license at all times. Should your driver’s license status change, youare required toreport the change to your supervisorimmediately.
  • Welding experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment physical assessment test (PAT) and/or functional capacity exam (FCE), drug screening, and background check.
  • CDL Class A License is highly desirable.
