Job summary

Conservation Legacy is seeking a Trail Data Steward for an AmeriCorps Individual Placement in the Pisgah National Forest. You will perform field-based trail assessments, collect GPS data, and help prioritize maintenance to inform USFS planning and disaster recovery efforts.

You will analyze data with ArcGIS, coordinate with volunteers, and contribute to trail sustainability and ADA-related improvements while representing CCNC publicly and professionally.

Qualifications

• US citizen, US national, or lawful permanent resident
• At least 17 years of age
• Has high school diploma or equivalent or agrees to obtain it prior to using the education award
• Agrees to provide information for National Service Criminal History Check
• Interest in conservation, public land stewardship, and outdoor recreation management
• Valid driver’s license; insurable for agency vehicles

Responsibilities

• Conduct systematic trail condition assessments evaluating tread, drainage, signage, accessibility, and safety hazards
• Monitor trailheads, bridges, culverts, and other infrastructure for storm-related damage
• Track and document Hurricane Helene impacts to trails and support disaster recovery planning
• Assist with volunteer or agency trail maintenance days to ground-truth data findings
