POSITION TITLE: Traffic Technician

LOCATION: Oahu/Rentals, 660 Mapunapuna St. Honolulu, HI 96819
REPORTS TO: Operations Supervisor
Principal Duties
- Performs traffic control duties (flagging, setting up and/or maintaining road closures, etc.) as required and in accordance with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), including the appropriate selection of signs and equipment for specific closures.
- Performs shop work as required including preparing orders, cleaning and/or repairing equipment, and general housekeeping.
- Delivers/picks up and positions traffic control devices as directed/required.
- Programs message centers and portable electronic signal systems as required.
- Ensures documents are correctly completed and turned in for all job assignments, with emphasis on keeping an accurate inventory of incoming/outgoing equipment.
- Consistently and thoroughly completes pre-trip forms and alerts Supervisor or Dispatcher of any vehicle-related issues.
- Identifies and determines when equipment should be refurbished or replaced and alerts Supervisor or Warehouse Foreman.
- Conducts oneself in a professional and courteous manner towards the customer and public.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Exhibits a core understanding of mutual respect and good customer service orientation in interactions with all people in the workplace.
Principal Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Mechanical ability and knowledge of tools preferred.
- Good mathematical skills to calculate and maintain proper count of equipment used/rented.
- Good reading and writing skills to comprehend and communicate written orders, instructions and technical information related to road closures and/or rentals.
- Map reading highly desired.
- Valid driver's license, favorable traffic abstract, and ability to meet DOT requirements for commercial vehicle drivers.
- Ability to regularly lift 50 pounds for loading and unloading equipment.
- Ability to one-handedly lay down traffic cones from the back of a truck for stretches of roadway of varying lengths.
- Dexterity and agility; able to regularly and safely climb up and down a truck bed.
- Ability to safely tow equipment and reverse vehicles over 10,001 GVW
- Familiarity with island locations and streets.
- Ability to work flexible hours for a 24/7 operation and in all types of weather conditions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
