Job summary

Town of Wayland Police Department seeks dependable Crossing Guard volunteers during the school year, providing safe crossing for children and families at designated crosswalks before and after school. The role requires standing for extended periods, good customer service, and basic crossing procedures.

Shifts run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:00–8:45 AM and 3:10–3:40 PM; Wednesdays 8:00–8:45 AM and 2:25–2:55 PM. CPR preferred; High School diploma or equivalent required.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma, or equivalent.
• CPR certification preferred.
• Experience: One (1) year of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise pedestrian crossing and assist school children and pedestrians near school zones during arrival and dismissal times.
• Manage pedestrian and vehicle interactions to ensure safety in crosswalks.
• Stand outdoors in various weather conditions and follow crossing procedures with customer service focus.

Description

The Town of Wayland Police Department is seeking dependable and community-minded individuals to serve as a Traffic Supervisor/Crossing Guard during the school year from September to June. This essential role assists school children, parents and other pedestrians, in safely crossing streets near school zones by managing pedestrian and vehicle interactions during school arrival and dismissal times.

The successful candidate must be able to work outside in a variety of weather/temperature conditions, the ability to stand for long periods, an understanding of basic crossing procedures, and excellent customer service skills in working with children and families.

The work schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays from 8:00AM to 8:45AM, and 3:10PM to 3:40PM; and Wednesdays from 8:00AM to 8:45AM, and 2:25PM to 2:55PM.
