PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Salary to commensurate with experience.

The Hiring range for this position is: $22.42-$28.02/Hourly

Signing Bonus: New employees are eligible for a $5,000 bonus;

The signing bonus will be paid in installments as follows:

  • $1,000 on the first paycheck
  • $1,000 after 3 months from the hire date
  • $1,000 after 6 months from the hire date
  • $1,000 after 9 months from the hire date
  • $1,000 after 12 months from the hire date

This bonus structure provides an incentive for successful candidates to join our team and rewards their commitment over time.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT
The Traffic Signs & Markings Technician I-III Roles performs skilled manual and technical maintenance and/or operational activities for the Traffic Signs & Markings workgroup.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Traffic Signs & Marking Tech:

  • Operates traffic maintenance equipment for the installation of traffic control signs and pavement markings.
  • Inspects traffic signs to assure compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Responsible for traffic control through work zones.
  • Assists with work planning by scheduling, organizing and securing materials and equipment.
  • Maintains various records such as equipment, time, supplies, and parts inventory.
  • Assists in training other employees in routine maintenance tasks.
  • May use personal computer to fabricate traffic control signs.
  • May act as lead worker.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

  • At least two (2) years of experience with sign fabrication and installation equipment, small paint machines or other equipment related to the traffic signs and markings function.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of methods, techniques, tools and equipment used in performing traffic signs and marking maintenance functions
  • Applicable safety practices and procedures

Preferred:

Skills:

  • Use of tools, specialized equipment, methods, and safety practices common to assigned maintenance function.

Abilities:

  • Ability to operate paint gun controls on paint trucks.
  • Ability to operate platform truck including proper use of safety harness.
  • Ability to weed and apply sign faces on aluminum blanks.
  • Ability to operate all thermoplastic equipment.
  • Ability and knowledge to follow loading procedure for paint truck.
  • Perform manual labor for extended periods of time, outside and in all weather conditions.
  • Understand oral and written instructions.
  • Operate or receive training on various types of maintenance and construction equipment.
  • Work overtime and call back duty.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees.
  • Train and instruct other employees.
  • Keep and maintain accurate records.
  • Organize and schedule tools, materials, and equipment to accomplish tasks.
  • Supportive team player with a positive attitude and ability to adapt to change.
  • Strong commitment to safety.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Colorado Driver’s License
  • Must obtain Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of employment.
  • Must obtain ATSSA safety certificate within six (6) months of employment in the position.
  • IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Certification.
  • RTD On-Track Safety Training Certification.

Essential Personnel:

  • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

  • Heavy physical work requiring the ability to lift 100 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Considerable walking and standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing (including work from an aerial lift to 40 feet high).
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, and bending.
  • Hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation of mowing and other motorized equipment.
  • Some speech communication to give information.
  • Clear vision to read operating manuals and instruction.
  • Hearing/listening for receiving and interpreting information and warning signals.

Work Environment:

  • Works primarily outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, street traffic and materials used in traffic maintenance such as paint and chemicals.
  • Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and holidays in emergency situations including snow removal.

Equipment Used:

  • Operate heavy equipment common to traffic signal maintenance.
  • This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
