Job summary

GovFirst is seeking an Engineering Technician to support signal shop operations in Suffolk, VA. The role involves field reviews, data collection, and maintaining timing models for about 189 signals.

The candidate will work outdoors along highways, relying on accurate data entry and communication with supervisors and staff. This is a full-time (W2) on-site position requiring a Virginia driver’s license and pre-employment checks.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of roadway operations and maintenance.
• Experience with field data collection and inspections.
• Ability to enter, maintain, and reconcile large data sets.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and assemble plan sheets, task orders, datasets, and other documentation to support signal shop operations.
• Conduct field reviews of work plans and verify site conditions at roadway and traffic signal locations.
• Drive a state-owned vehicle to remote field locations and coordinate with maintenance personnel to obtain access to equipment and work areas.
• Collect, document, and validate field information related to roadway and traffic signal infrastructure.
• Assemble and maintain signal timing models and related information for approximately 189 traffic signals.
