The City of New Orleans Government is seeking a Traffic Signal Technician to perform skilled work in installing, maintaining, and repairing traffic signals and related systems for the public works department.
Promotional opportunities exist for permanent status; candidates must have either 2 years of full-time electrical experience or a completed Basic Electricity/Electronics course from a recognized trades school, with credential verification prior to start date.
Skilled work in the installations, maintenance and repair of traffic signals, and related work as required.
(Promotional) Permanent status as a Traffic Signal Technician with the Department of Public Works.
(Original Entrance) EITHER Two (2) years of full-time experience in the field of servicing or installing electrical equipment devices. OR Completion of a course in Basic Electricity or Electronics from a recognized trades school. Prior to appointment, the hiring agency is required to verify all credentials claimed by the applicant to qualify for this classification. If selected for hire, applicants must provide original documents of their qualifying credentials to the hiring agency prior to their start date in this job classification.
A qualifying written examination and a rating of training and experience, weighted 100%. All related previous experience will be considered for qualification purposes; however, credit on the rating of training and experience will only be given for experience gained within the last ten (10) years. Promotional employees are exempt from the written examination.
