Job description

The Traffic Signal Technician II is responsible for applying the field of electrical and electronic system techniques to traffic signal systems.

  1. Performs manual labor in construction of traffic signal control systems.
  2. Assists with the installation and maintenance of traffic signal devices.
  3. Performs maintenance and repair of less complex traffic signal devices.
  4. Acquires knowledge of prescribed methods of equipment operation, use, and test procedures.
  5. Operates digger truck and boom lift and performs aerial maintenance.
  6. Ensures proper operation of vehicle and tools available for work assignments.
  7. Submits vehicle maintenance reports.
  8. Cleans all work sites when job is completed and performs general shop upkeep.

The Traffic Signal Technician II should possess, at a minimum, a High School Diploma or GED; two (2) years of experience with electrical/electronic devices; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Key Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge of regulations, ordinances, and policies pertaining to traffic control systems and the Georgia Uniform Traffic Code.
  2. Knowledge of safety rules and precautions required by electrical hazards and equipment operation.
  3. Knowledge of a personal computer and relevant programs.
  4. Knowledge of geographical area pertaining to traffic signal systems.
  5. Knowledge of materials, tools, vehicles/equipment used in traffic signal installation and maintenance.
  6. Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic basic principles as applied to traffic signal equipment.
  7. Ability to read and understand blueprint diagrams and schematics.
  8. Ability to apply training and experience to the traffic signal systems and techniques.
  9. Ability to perform manual labor.
  10. Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees.
  11. Ability to read, comprehend, and explain wiring diagrams, schematics, technical drawings, etc.
  12. Ability to analyze, locate, and correct troubles efficiently in systems and devices used in traffic signal systems.
  13. Skill in the safe use of materials, tools, vehicles, and equipment used in traffic signal installation and maintenance.
  14. Ability to work effectively with members of all levels within the organization.
