Job summary

The Town of Chapel Hill is seeking an experienced traffic systems engineer to manage the Traffic Management Center, monitor CCTV feeds, and adjust signal timing. The role combines field work with office analysis to optimize traffic flow across town corridors.

You will coordinate with NCDOT, consultants, and internal staff, maintain signal cabinets, and ensure data accuracy in Centracs and related databases. Averages 3+ years in traffic signal operations are expected.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in civil engineering, electrical engineering, computer programming, or related field; bachelor's preferred.
• Minimum three years of progressive experience in traffic signal system operations and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Operate the Traffic Management Center and CCTV feeds to ensure smooth traffic flow.
• Input and adjust signal timing in field cabinets as needed.
• Review traffic data and adjust timing plans after coordination with NCDOT and consultants.
• Collaborate with signal supervisors and technicians on repairs and emergencies.
• Prepare reports and communicate findings to leadership.
