Job summary

The City of Missouri City, known as the “Show Me City,” seeks a Traffic Signal Specialist for its Public Works Department. The role focuses on installing, repairing, monitoring, maintaining, operating, and reporting on the City’s Intelligent Transportation System (ITS).

The position reports to the Traffic Operations Manager and involves coordination with contractors, budget and contract duties, and 24-hour recall readiness. IMSA Level II certification is required, with a CDL preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with at least six years of relevant professional experience.
• IMSA Level II Certification required.
• Associate’s Degree in Traffic Management, Engineering, Logistics, or Physical Distribution with six years of related professional experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development and implementation of Divisional Goals and Objectives to meet Departmental Mission.
• Perform administrative duties including budget development and contract administration.
• Supervise contractors by processing work requests and job orders, assigning duties, monitoring purchases, approving timesheets, completing accident reports, and implementing policies and procedures.
• Assist in operation and maintenance of the City’s Traffic Management Center.
• Review and recommend improvements to traffic signal timing, phasing, construction, and communications.
• Provide assistance with Project Management and Contract Administration for Traffic Signal Upgrades, Traffic Studies, Mobility Coordination, and related programs.
• Perform duties of the Traffic Operations Manager in their absence.
• Subject to 24-hour recall.

Reporting Relationship:Traffic Operations Manager

• Assists in the development and implementation of Divisional Goals and Objectives to meet the Departmental Mission.
• Performs administrative duties, including budget development and contract administration.
• Supervises contractors by processing work requests and job orders, assigning work duties, monitoring work duty purchases,approving timesheets, completing accident reports, and implementing policies and procedures.
• Responsible for assisting in the overall operation and maintenance of the City’s Traffic Management Center.
• Reviews and makes recommendations on technical improvements, procedures, or protocols to continuously improve traffic signal timing, phasing, construction, and communications.
• Reviews and approves recommended changes and/or improvements to traffic operations.
• Provides assistance with Project Management and Contract Administration and Management for various operational and capital improvement programs, including Traffic Signal Upgrades and Repairs, Traffic Studies, Mobility Coordination, Traffic Calming, Traffic Impact Analysis, Intelligent Transportation Systems, and Plan Review.
• Performs the duties of the Traffic Operations Manager in their absence.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Subject to 24-hour recall.

High School Diploma with:

• Minimum of six (6) years of relevant professional experience required.
• International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level II Certification required.

OR

Associate’s Degreein Traffic Management, Engineering, Logistics, or Physical Distribution from an accredited college or university, with the following qualifications:

• Minimum of six (6) years of related professional experience preferred.
• Must obtain IMSA Level II Certification within two (2) years of employment.

Additional Preferred Qualification:

• Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
