Job summary

City of Columbia seeks a skilled technician to maintain, repair and program traffic control devices and mobile communications equipment. The role involves electrical maintenance, following procedures while exercising independent judgment, and keeping detailed work records.

Responsibilities include installing radios, performing preventive maintenance, coordinating timing, assisting in troubleshooting, and supporting other divisions.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in electrical/electronic maintenance or related field, or 3 years of related experience.
• Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License; IMSA level 2 certification may apply.
• On-call availability including nights, holidays, and weekends as required.
• Ability to perform electrical repair, maintenance and troubleshooting on field devices.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, test and repair traffic control devices and mobile communications equipment.
• Install, program and test mobile and fixed radios and accessories.
• Perform preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment.
• Prepare detailed work records and reports; coordinate timing per engineers’ instructions.
• Assist in troubleshooting problems with devices; respond to inquiries and public concerns.
• May perform general clerical tasks as needed and attend meetings for knowledge enhancement.
• Work outside regular hours as needed, including nights and weekends.
