Job description

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Traffic Signal Maintenance Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of traffic signal systems and related infrastructure to ensure the safe and efficient movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Install, maintain, and repair traffic signal systems, including signal heads, controllers, wiring, sensors, cabinets, and communication equipment.
  2. Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure equipment functions correctly and safely.
  3. Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in electronic and electrical signal systems.
  4. Respond to emergency calls for signal malfunctions and perform timely repairs.
  5. Replace or adjust traffic signal hardware, software, timing, and coordination plans as directed.
  6. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment status, and parts used.
  7. Interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
  8. Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal safety and traffic regulations.
  9. Coordinate with utility companies, contractors, and other city departments as needed.
  10. Operate and maintain tools, vehicles, bucket trucks, and other specialized equipment.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license (Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or required within a set timeframe).
  • 1–3 years of experience in traffic signal maintenance, electrical work, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of MUTCD standards, traffic signal operation, and traffic control devices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Preferred:

  • IMSA Level I or II Traffic Signal Technician Certification (or ability to obtain within 6–12 months).
  • Experience with signal management software and traffic control systems.
