Job summary

Sarasota County Government seeks an experienced electrician to maintain and repair traffic signalized lights, streetlights, and related traffic system equipment. You will work on video monitoring devices, detectors, and signal controllers to ensure smooth traffic operation in the county.

Key requirements include a high school diploma, two years of electrical experience, a Florida driver’s license, and CDL Class B or ability to obtain within six months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of experience as an electrician or similar field.
• Valid Florida driver’s license at time of hire.
• CDL Class B license or ability to obtain within six months from hire date.
• Must obtain IMSA Signal Level I within one year and Level II within three years.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair street lights, traffic signals, aerial traffic signal equipment, and remote traffic count equipment.
• Perform traffic signal controller cabinet maintenance and cleaning.
• Repair and replace vehicle detectors and pedestrian detectors.
• Install, maintain, test video equipment used to monitor traffic and detect vehicles.
• Test traffic signal controllers.
• Install, maintain, repair, and operate school flashers, pedestrian crossing apparatus, illuminated and non-illuminated aerial signs, and related electronic equipment.
• Test, service/repair fiber optic and copper cable communication circuits.
• Set up work zone traffic control (MOT/TTC).
