Job description

Job Description: Traffic Engineer at RK&K

RK&K is seeking a highly motivated Traffic Engineer with 7 to 10 years of experience, including extensive knowledge of work zone traffic control. The role involves providing high-profile services through various traffic engineering contracts for diverse clients. Due to increased focus on safety, federal and state mandates, and technological advancements, there is a growing demand for traffic engineers specializing in work zone traffic control. As a Traffic Engineer, you will collaborate with a talented team and utilize state-of-the-art software to deliver impactful projects.

Essential Functions
  1. Perform traffic engineering research to analyze work zone traffic control methodologies, principles, products, and applications.
  2. Create policies, guidelines, and standards to improve work zone design, implementation, and safety.
  3. Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to evaluate and improve existing work zone standards and traffic control plans.
  4. Review and develop maintenance of traffic plans for major projects, considering workers, vehicles, and vulnerable road users.
  5. Design and implement ITS work zone applications to enhance traveler information.
  6. Assist with Speed Safety Camera programs, including management, implementation, and vendor coordination.
  7. Visit construction sites to investigate work zone setups and monitor camera installations.
Required Skills and Experience
  1. Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
  2. P.E. license.
  3. 7-10 years of experience in traffic engineering, especially work zones.
  4. Strong communication, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  5. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with data-driven decision-making.
  6. Deep knowledge of work zone traffic control strategies, MUTCD, and related standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience in project management and coordination.
  2. Familiarity with state and local traffic standards.
