Job summary

The City of Roanoke is seeking an experienced supervisor to lead a 3–5 person crew in the Transportation Division. The role focuses on special event traffic control setup/tear-down and Vision Zero infrastructure maintenance, including markings and signs in the public right of way.

You will be the primary operational point of contact for the Special Events Coordinator, coordinating staff and equipment and ensuring safety, accuracy, and schedules. Some nights and weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; two to three years of traffic control/ markings or related work experience preferred.
• Knowledge of MUTCD required.
• VDOT intermediate work zone traffic control certification required; CDL may be needed within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and participate in a 3–5 person crew.
• Oversee special event traffic control setup and tear-down.
• Maintain Vision Zero infrastructure and traffic markings, signs and related operations.
• Coordinate staffing, equipment, and barricade setup per event plans.
• Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly records; manage work orders.

Education

VDOT-recognized Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control Certification

Class B CDL (obtain within 6 months)
