Job summary

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation is seeking a Section Chief of Traffic. This leadership role oversees traffic signal operations, traffic studies, and related planning projects within the City.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Five (5) years of experience managing engineering projects as a licensed professional engineer.
• Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer.
• A minimum of three years directly supervising senior engineers, junior engineers and engineering technicians.
• Equivalency: an equivalent combination of experience and/or education.

Responsibilities

• Authorize installation of traffic control devices including signals, signs and pavement markings.
• Operate and maintain the city’s 1,350 traffic signals and conduct traffic studies.
• Coordinate with other departments on traffic analysis and mitigation for planning studies and construction projects.
• Work with multi-disciplinary planning and design teams for roadway improvement and ITS projects.
• Recruit and hire staff and oversee consultant resources.
• Manage the Transportation Safety Improvement Program.
• Manage the Transportation Management Center.
• Conduct traffic policy research and analysis on a range of topics.
