The City of Norfolk's Department of Transportation is seeking Traffic Maintenance Technician I for its Traffic Operations Center. These technicians are responsible for field installations of traffic signs and pavement markings, supporting special events by setting up traffic control devices.
The Department ensures safe and convenient mobility for all residents, whether walking, riding, rolling, or driving. The Traffic Operations Center manages the building, painting, maintenance, and operation of all signalized and non-signalized traffic control facilities, shaping the city's mobility and safety priorities. The department maintains over 700 miles of traffic lane lines, 813 crosswalks, 315 traffic signals, 120 school and pedestrian crossing signals, 22 flashers, and over 31,000 streetlights. It also fabricates, installs, and maintains more than 40,000 traffic control signs.
Must be able to read and understand written instructions, comprehend simple processes, and operate machines routinely. Knowledge level is equivalent to less than high school or an equivalent diploma.
Preferred Experience: One year of experience in traffic, construction, plumbing, or HVAC work.
Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This position is classified as essential and requires 24-hour shifts during emergencies or inclement weather.
Eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus.
