Job summary

The State of Indiana, via INDOT's Greenfield District, is seeking a Traffic Field Investigator to collect and analyze traffic data and prepare recommendations for traffic control changes. You will work with field devices, perform data analysis, and respond to public inquiries.

Required to possess a valid driver license and obtain a Class A or B CDL within 90 days; ability to lift 50 pounds; and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather. A degree is not required.

Role Overview

The Traffic Field Investigator performs technical engineering assignments in collecting, correlating, and analyzing vehicle and volume turn counts, radar speed observations, topographic information, crash data and photographs for use in various traffic and safety studies (Traffic Signal, Flashing Beacon, Speed, Parking, School zones, Warning and Regulatory sign requests). You wll investigate traffic-related concerns using special measuring devices and prepare data for inclusion in final reports. prepare reports and recommendations on changes/additions of traffic control based on field observations and analysis, handle complaints from public and officials regarding study locations, and other traffic related matters.

This position is with INDOT's Greenfield District.

Salary

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.

A Day In The Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

• Calibrates, operates, and evaluates data from multiple specialize test systems at Materials and Tests; Obtain CDL license to assist in District snow removal operations;
• Follows all related safety standards and conducts/participates in safety briefing.
• Performs research, preliminary data analysis and collects quality data on multiple specialized testing systems.
• Performs and maintains calibration of test systems to prescribed federal and state specifications.
• Performs maintenance, repair and system upgrades to laboratory test systems.
• Assists Laboratory Manager in conducting multiple laboratory tests and data analysis.
• Assist with Facilities and B&G repair and maintenance.

What You'll Need For Success

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

• Must possess a valid driver license.
• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain one with the first 90 days of employment.

Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.

• Required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time.
• Must be able to endure exposure to inclement weather.Must have ability to read, write, and communicate clearly.
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
• The ability to read, interpret and follow technical documents such as AASHTO, ASTM, INDOT specifications, and Indiana Test Methods (ITM);
• Basic knowledge of and the ability to operate and maintain material testing equipment.
