Job summary

Orion Placement is seeking a seasoned civil engineer to lead traffic and transportation projects in Omaha. The role focuses on planning, design, and client liaison, with strong leadership responsibilities and a track record of delivering complex transportation initiatives.

Requirements include a PE license, a bachelor’s in civil engineering, and 6+ years in traffic/transportation engineering, plus at least 1 year directing teams and projects.

Qualifications

  • PE license required.
  • 6+ years of traffic or transportation engineering experience.
  • 1+ year of project leadership and engineering staff management experience.
  • Strong project management, communication, and client relationship skills.
  • Experience managing budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Business development experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead traffic engineering and transportation projects from planning through successful completion.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and client expectations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for municipal, agency, and private-sector clients.
  • Provide technical leadership for traffic engineering, transportation planning, and ITS projects.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop engineering staff while supporting team growth.
  • Review designs, reports, and project deliverables to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support business development through client relationship management, proposal preparation, and project pursuits.
  • Identify project risks and proactively develop solutions to keep projects on track.
  • Help strengthen and expand the firm's traffic engineering practice.

Location: Omaha, Nebraska. Primarily on-site with a flexible culture that supports occasional flexibility while emphasizing collaboration, mentorship, and client relationships.

Note: Applicants must have a Professional Engineer (PE) license, at least 6+ years of traffic or transportation engineering experience, and at least 1+ year of experience leading engineering projects and staff.
