Job summary

Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) is seeking a Traffic Practice Leader to guide traffic engineering efforts on Pennsylvania transportation projects and help build a strong local team in Cranberry Township.

Ideal candidate has a PE and 15+ years of traffic engineering experience in consulting, with expertise in Synchro, HCS, VISSIM and SIDRA, plus strong knowledge of MUTCD and PennDOT standards. You will lead studies, mentor staff, and support proposals with municipalities and state agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering.
• 15+ years of traffic engineering experience in a consulting environment.
• Professional Engineer (PE) preferred; PA PE eligibility ideal.
• Strong knowledge of MUTCD, PennDOT requirements and traffic principles.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead traffic engineering tasks including studies, capacity analyses, modeling, signal design, and safety evaluations.
• Prepare reports, memos, plans and supporting documentation.
• Oversee traffic components for roadway and planning projects with high-quality deliverables.
• Develop signal timing plans, ITS layouts, signing and pavement marking plans, and traffic control plans.
• Collaborate with roadway, structural, planning, survey and environmental teams.
• Mentor junior traffic staff and participate in client meetings and proposals.
• Ensure compliance with PennDOT, MUTCD and AASHTO requirements.

We are seeking a Traffic Practice Leader to guide traffic engineering efforts, support a range of transportation projects, and help build a strong local team. This role is ideal for an experienced traffic engineer interested in technical leadership and practice growth within a developing market.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead traffic engineering tasks including traffic studies, capacity analysis, modeling, signal design, safety studies, and corridor evaluations.
• Prepare reports, technical memos, plans, and supporting documentation.
• Manage and oversee traffic components for roadway and planning projects, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
• Develop signal timing plans, ITS layouts, signing and pavement marking plans, and traffic control plans.
• Use analysis and modeling tools such as Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA, or related software.
• Collaborate closely with roadway, structural, planning, survey, and environmental groups.
• Train, mentor, and support junior traffic staff.
• Participate in client meetings, presentations, and coordination with municipalities and state agencies.
• Support proposal development, scoping, and business development efforts as MSG expands its Pennsylvania presence.
• Ensure compliance with PennDOT, MUTCD, and AASHTO requirements.

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) preferred; ability to obtain PA PE if not already licensed.
• 15+ years of traffic engineering experience; prior consulting experience required.
• Proficiency with traffic analysis tools such as Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA, or similar.
• Strong understanding of MUTCD standards, PennDOT requirements, and traffic engineering principles.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on PennDOT projects or local municipal clients.
• PTOE certification.
• Experience contributing to or leading traffic teams in a consulting environment.
