Job summary

WSP USA is hosting a Transportation Engineering Intern in Chicago as part of the Summer Internship Program. The 12-week internship, starting May 17, 2027, offers exposure to real projects while working with senior staff and a Developing Professionals Network for mentorship and lifelong career connections.

As an intern, you will support transportation engineering, planning, design, and road safety tasks with agencies and clients, gaining valuable hands-on experience and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering BS degree with an anticipated graduation date May 2027 or later.
• Must be 18 or older.
• Demonstrated interest in transportation/traffic engineering and desire to grow in WSP’s projects.
• Interpersonal and communication skills to engage with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
• Capable of taking direction from leadership and mentors to complete projects.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Auth to work in the United States at internship start date.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
• Assist transportation engineering/planning/design and road safety projects with agencies and clients.
• Contribute to traffic studies, multi-modal planning, and design tasks.
• Assist in road safety projects including RSA, crash analysis, and highway safety analyses.
• Learn principles of Transportation Engineering and assist in documenting projects.
