Job summary

SRF Consulting Group, Inc. seeks a civil engineering student for an on-site internship in our Wisconsin Group in Madison. You will assist with corridor studies, signal design, traffic impact studies, and related traffic engineering tasks on real projects.

The role offers up to 40 hours per week in summer and part-time during the school year, with potential full-time employment after graduation from an accredited Civil Engineering program. On-site for the Madison office.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in a civil engineering program or closely related field.
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
• Students with 1-3 semesters remaining to complete their engineering degree are desired / preferred.
• Strong analytical skills and technical writing ability.
• Excellent interpersonal and public communication skills.
• Ability to thrive within a cooperative team atmosphere.
• Passion for emerging transportation technologies and trends, as well as multimodal transportation including car, pedestrian, bicycle, and transit modes is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conceptual, preliminary, and final design task.
• Intersection control evaluations.
• Signal and roundabout justification reports.
• Traffic signal design tasks.
• Signing and pavement markings design.
• Work zone traffic control.
• Detour signing.
• Data collection and processing.
• Utilize various software applications, including word processing and spreadsheets, while working directly with traffic engineering tools such as Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, RODEL, SignCAD, and AutoCAD to perform design, analysis, and project coordination.
