Job summary

North Carolina Department of Transportation seeks an Engineer I to review and develop Transportation Management Plans (TMPs) for diverse highway projects. You will coordinate with Design Units, NCDOT divisions, and external firms to ensure safe, efficient work zones and contractor productivity.

Preferred EI registration and a Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Some travel and field inspections may be required; strong skills in MS Office and CAD tools are expected.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of traffic and transportation engineering principles.
  • Ability to explain engineering concepts clearly in writing and speech.
  • Experience reading roadway, drainage, and/or structural highway plans.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and basic CAD software.

Responsibilities

  • Review and develop Transportation Management Plans (TMPs) for various projects.
  • Coordinate TMP design oversight with private engineering firms and NCDOT units.
  • Review internal and external TMP submittals and ensure constructability and safety.
  • Develop construction sequencing and traffic management strategies.
  • Assist field engineers and perform work zone safety reviews.
