Job summary

Horrocks seeks a mid-level Traffic Engineer to support the planning, design, and delivery of transportation projects in Utah, focusing on traffic signals, street lighting, and ITS. This role targets engineers with 4+ years of experience who want greater technical depth and ownership.

You will collaborate with senior engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver traffic and roadway lighting solutions that improve safety and mobility, primarily from Utah offices with opportunities to support

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• 4+ years in traffic or transportation engineering.
• PE license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
• Experience with ITS, traffic signals, and roadway lighting.
• Knowledge of MUTCD, FHWA, AASHTO, and DOT design criteria.
• Proficiency with design software (Bentley OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Agi32).
• Experience with traffic analysis tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS, or SIDRA is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform traffic engineering analysis and design focusing on ITS, signal systems, and roadway lighting.
• Prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical memoranda, and reports.
• Design traffic signal layouts, timing plans, and interconnect systems per standards.
• Develop roadway and intersection lighting designs with photometric calculations.
• Support project managers with scheduling and budget tracking.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, agencies, and utilities to advance project delivery.
• Apply MUTCD, FHWA, AASHTO, and DOT standards throughout project development.
• Participate in client meetings and technical presentations.
• Support QA/QC reviews and ensure deliverables are accurate.
