Job summary

Horrocks is seeking a mid-level Traffic Engineer to support planning, design, and delivery of transportation projects across Utah and the western US. You will work with senior engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver safe and efficient traffic, signal, ITS, and lighting solutions.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years of experience, a PE or the ability to obtain one, and familiarity with MUTCD and AASHTO standards. The role offers growth opportunities and a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 4+ years of professional experience in traffic or transportation engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
• Experience on ITS, traffic signal, and roadway lighting projects.
• Working knowledge of MUTCD, FHWA guidance, AASHTO standards, and DOT design criteria.
• Proficiency with Bentley OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Agi32, or similar design software.
• Experience with traffic analysis tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM, HCS, or SIDRA is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to manage multiple assignments and collaborate.

Responsibilities

• Perform traffic engineering analysis and design focusing on ITS, signals, and roadway lighting.
• Prepare detailed plans, specs, cost estimates, technical memoranda, and reports.
• Design traffic signal layouts, timing plans, and interconnect systems per standards.
• Develop roadway and intersection lighting designs with photometric calculations.
• Support PMs with task coordination, scheduling, and budget tracking.
• Independently complete primary design elements for engineering works.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, agencies, and utilities.
• Apply MUTCD, FHWA, AASHTO standards throughout project development.
• Participate in client and agency meetings and contribute to technical discussions.
• Support QA/QC reviews and ensure deliverables are accurate.
