Job summary

The City of Richardson is seeking a Traffic Engineer (EIT) to assist with planning, analyses, and design for traffic projects and to support the Traffic Control Center. You will help optimize signal timing and operations while contributing to long-range transportation planning.

Eligible candidates hold a Civil Engineering degree, an Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification, a Texas driver’s license, and at least two years of traffic engineering experience.

Qualifications

• Two years of professional traffic engineering experience with emphasis on analyses and design principles.
• Familiarity with traffic management center operations and signal timing concepts.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, specifications, and studies.
• Experience with AutoCAD, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
• Strong written and oral presentation skills for stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Analyze engineering designs and provide recommendations based on engineering principles.
• Prepare databases, spreadsheets, graphics, and software for traffic signal systems and models.
• Design and implement traffic engineering improvements including signal timing and progression plans.
• Monitor traffic patterns via field observations to support operations and long-range planning.
• Maintain organized digital files and documentation for projects.
• Interpret traffic signal plans and construction drawings accurately.
• Operate traffic models and troubleshoot related software hardware.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers, contractors, and public officials.
• Coordinate with internal departments, external agencies, and stakeholders to support projects.
• Contribute as a proactive member of a multidisciplinary team.
• May supervise subordinate employees when appropriate.
