Job summary

HDR is seeking a Traffic Engineer to contribute to traffic analysis, design, and signal planning across diverse projects. The role emphasizes applying engineering judgment on mid-size projects and supporting the team with technical leadership.

You will work with CAD platforms, traffic modeling tools, and safety software, while collaborating with engineers and technicians to deliver compliant PS&E documents. A PE license and 5+ years of experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required or recognized by the licensing board.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in traffic analysis and traffic engineering/design.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex traffic engineering projects and prepare traffic signal plans, and PS&E documents.
• Make design and engineering procedure decisions as needed.
• Serve as technical specialist or project manager on mid-size projects; not solely focused on management.
• Supervisor duties for small staff of professionals and technicians as needed.
• Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Traffic Engineer, we'll count on you to:

• Perform complex traffic engineering projects, exercise sound engineering judgment, preparation of traffic signal plans, traffic impact analysis reports and PS and E documents
• Make decisions on design and engineering procedures as needed
• Function as technical specialist or project manager on mid-size projects, but project management is not sole focus of this position
• Supervise small staff of professionals and technicians as needed
• Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years experience with traffic analysis and traffic engineering/design

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• Experience with traffic analysis and traffic engineering/design
• Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example:Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
• Detailed hands on experience conducting traffic design using CAD platforms including MicroStation, Autocad and Guide Sign software
• Detailed hands on experience conducting operational analysis using a variety of analysis and modeling tools specific to support job duties, including HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, and Aimsun
• Detailed hands on experience conducting safety analysis using a variety of safety software tools including Highway Safety Software
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word
• Strong verbal and written skills
