Job summary

STV is seeking a Traffic Design Engineer to join the Transportation team in Owings Mills, Maryland. You will design traffic control devices, contribute to safety and operations analyses, and support projects across STV’s South Region with opportunities to grow.

The role emphasizes hands-on design, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and applying MUTCD/SH A standards. EIT is preferred; PE licensure in Maryland is a plus. This position is not eligible for sponsorship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required.
• Minimum 2 years in traffic engineering or transportation design.
• Experience developing traffic control device designs.
• EIT preferred; ability to obtain Maryland PE license.
• Experience with public DOTs is highly desired.
• Proficiency in MicroStation, AutoCAD, OpenRoads Designer; DOT CADD standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop traffic signal designs including phasing, timing, detection, communications, and cabinet/controller plans.
• Prepare ITS designs for CCTV, dynamic message signs, fiber, and field devices.
• Design signing and pavement markings per MUTCD using GuideSign software.
• Develop Maintenance of Traffic designs per SHA and MUTCD standards.
• Use VISUAL or Agi32 to create roadway or pedestrian lighting plans.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver accurate work on schedule and within budget.
• Perform field reviews and verify design assumptions.
• Assist project managers with specifications, quantities, and cost estimates.
• Apply SHA, MUTCD, AASHTO, and local standards across deliverables.
• Conduct QA/QC and support senior staff reviews.
